Her Roses Ripple Like an Asp

"The forest trees stand like a cloak,
a rosebush grows there in that brake.
She's wrapped around a massive oak
her flowers a sweet picture make
when stroked by wind, they tremble, quake.

Few have passed her glowing vines
without a quick-caught startled gasp,
such complicated intertwines-
her roses ripple like an asp
through thickset oaken leaves she grasps.

The winters come and bring their chill-
this fragile rose, snow can't revoke.
Instead, she blossoms fuller still,
the winds can't reach her petalled cloak...
she dances with a mighty oak."

Native Garden-Winter (March 13, 2011)

Taken 3/13/2011 at the Native Flora garden. I love the twists and turns in this photo, and the bit of blue sky coming out in this otherwise monochromatic picture. In retrospect, I think the garden was open (unusual for the winter) because it was a very warm day.

Grandma & I

Mom & I went to visit my 91 year old Grandmother in her nursing home today. She's had Alzheimer's Disease for quite a while now - who knows when these things start.

She was having a particularly good day. I took her pictures to see on my computer - that always blows her mind a little...

Mom brought Grandma a narcissus plant in a box that we could work on for a little while with her. She always loved to garden.

Merry Christmas Grandma!
