This cactus flower is pretty nondescript really, but it was sitting bathed in the morning sun, so I figured in deserved a picture just like most of the plants around here!
Flowers On Post June 7 #1

While the bus was coming into the downtown station, this bunch of flowers attached to a lamp post caught my eye. I was determined to get a good picture of it, but the sun made that very difficult. This is probably the best shot of the flowers out of all that I took.

Experimenting to learn how to balance ambient and flash light (so that the flash doesn't look jarring and hard against the light in the room). My method so far:
Set camera to aperture priority, exposure-compensation to minus-two stops. Point flash at the opposite wall at 45 degrees with orange gel on it to match the domestic lights. Dial manual flash power up and down until the picture looks right and the on-camera histogram shows a good spread.
This is also a decent example of how ISO3200 on the 5DmkII is pretty great when used to get a fast shutter speed in medium light (instead of just about coping in low light).
Flowers From The UK

My family sent us some flowers and chocolates yesterday, so I took a few pictures of them so that they can see what was delivered. We don't have any vases yet, though, so at present they are living in the sink. We did try keeping them in the kitchen measuring jug at first, but they fell over and flooded the kitchen floor. Doh!
