Purple flowers

I decided to try Portuguese Bend in Palos Verdes, CA. I didn't take a lot of pictures there, but on the walk back to my truck, I went past a lot of flowers that had been planted by the residents. I'm still working on my flower pictures, and at first I was reasonably happy with this one, but now the sunlight seems too harsh.
Cropped to 16x9 for use as a background, though it's kinda busy for a background.
I think they're some sort of aster, but I have enough problems with bird identification; I'm pretty hopeless with flowers.
