Flower with cobweb
This picture is dedicated to my dear friend Pamela Valentine, who is not a member of Flickr. Pam has known me for nearly 40 years, ever since we both attended H. W. Solomon Junior High School in Greenville, Mississippi. By my own admission, I was a rather obnoxious and annoying kid, so Pam more or less endured me for several years; but fortunately for both of us, we did not remain teenagers forever. Pam represents all that is good about the culture of the deep South, and may best be described as a "steel magnolia" -- well-mannered, gracious, and very feminine, but smart, tough, and durable as well. I am dedicating this to her because she saw it in my photostream and told me she liked it. Besides, women like to be given flowers once in awhile, and Pam certainly deserves this.
A lot of good photography is the result of seizing opportunities. Using my 300mm lens, I aimed at this flower, not realizing what I had until it came into focus and I saw the cobweb. I took two versions of the picture and decided this one was the better of the two, because the other included more of the tree trunk in the background and I wanted to focus on the flower and the cobweb.
Taken at the Mesa City Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona.
Magnolia blooms

Today's walk in Tower Grove Park, while pleasant, had little to offer in these early days of spring. Until I came accross this magnolia. Seen against the blue sky, it was gorgeous.
Mustard Magnolia Pillbox

I haven't had an appropriate opportunity to wear this mini pillbox hat out. So I took a picture in my poorly lit studio, fixed it up in photoshop and poof! I can be an extra member in that one Queen album cover.

Appreciating Clouds with Magnolias in the Way
When I took this pic I was getting ready to take a picture of some clouds. The magnolia blossoms were right beside me and I could smell their wonderful fragrance so obviously the clouds in the background lost out.
