The leaves from last year covering the ground around this beautifully optimistic daffodil. I imagine they're whispering, in voices only flowers can hear, "We were also pretty and colourful not long ago. The people were taking our photographs not long ago. Life is so short, it's all so ephemeral." The daff, being a born optimist and joybringer, filled with pride and faith in its own immortality, ignores their whispers and reaches towards the lifebringing sun.

Assignment
Photograph the ephemeral: document the passing of things in life whose nature is transient and/or even short-lived. Despite the article I have linked to here, the subject matter does not at all have to relate to nature.

dare: Compose an image that evokes an emotional response from your audience.

What it took
Daffodil stuck to table using blue-tack. Two buckets of last year's leaves scattered around it (I knew there was a reason why I just threw the leaves behind the shed instead of getting rid of them!). Flash with softbox (full power) to the front left, flash with shoot-through umbrella (1/8 power) front right to light up shadows. A reflector might have been more appropriate, but I don't have one. "Cloudy" white balance to bring out the golden hues. Crop adjusted in Photoshop, but otherwise it's "straight from camera".

I have 3 plants, each are a different color. They are so pretty and they sit on a table in front of the window ... I want to take a picture everytime I pass by.

I think this flower is gorgeous - slightly weird, but gorgeous!

I love the flowers and such at Kew Gardens, and taking pictures of them, but I'm pretty hopeless with the names, so if I haven't named a flower (or I've got it wrong!) PLEASE drop a comment on telling me what it should be!! Ta muchly!
