Winged Iris

We have quite a few varieties of iris in our garden, and this is the first of its type to bloom this spring.
Strobist info: The main light was an SB700 in a softbox to the left of the flower, a SB600 in a softbox to the right for fill light, and another SB600 in a Honl snoot, hand held underneath the flower pointing up to light the inner part of the flower and provide some glow. Strobes were all in manual mode with output adjusted to taste, and triggered by the popup flash on my D90 in commander mode.
Other plants and flowers that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/...

Douglas Iris - first of the year on my plant
Douglas irises are among my very favorite flowers. I bought a small plant at the native plant society sale a few years ago, and it's very happy and healthy in my yard, despite having been dug up and moved to a new house once.
I love the asymetry here.
