peacock

The peafowl, of genus peafowl, family Phasianidae, is a beautiful bird regarded as a symbol of auspiciousness, kindness, beauty and elegance. There are two species of it in the world: the green peafowl and the blue peafowl. The first set of stamps on peafowl in China displays the beauty of the green and blue peacocks. The original painting of “Grace”, Spring Sleep, in fine brushwork and rich colors shows a blue peacock perching on a branch of a blooming magnolia tree in the warm spring. The original painting of “Charm”, Nobility, shows in fine and freehand brushwork a white peacock (a variant type of blue peacock) leaning against a rock by Chinese wisteria flowers, its tail dropping into clear water. It displays the purity and elegance of the white peacock. The original painting of the picture on the souvenir sheet, Vying for Beauty, vividly presents the beauty of the green peacock and peahen, giving a vigorous, colorful impression, and expressing love for life and yearning for happiness.
Violets

Last winter when I went up to Pottsvile to take pictures, I stayed at the Partridge House. All the rooms were named after flowers, and I stayed in the Violet Room. The owner remarked that it was easy to find pictures of roses, magnolias, etc. but not so easy to find pictures of violets. So when these emerged by the river recently, I took a snap. It was an overcast day, which I think brings out the colors. Mrs. P, this one's for you...
