dear god [aka superman, chuck e cheese, the hulk and/or any other fairy tale character]:

in using the swastika in recent work, i realise that i may have stacked my rapture™ deck a touch toward the 'lake of fire' side!

do please consider this picture of a lovely flower as a 'balancer'.

.

i know it seems pointless talking to you, as you don't actually exist, but engaging in a little 'pascal's wager' never did anybody any real harm.

so, when selecting the 'saved', please consider the fact that i'm a reasonably nice chap; my house is clean [relatively] as is my underwear [relatively], and i feed the birds [think st francis here!] every day.

all that plus this lovely flower must count for something on the big day [i.e. tomorrow - 21st may 2011].

.

if all goes well, we'll have a goblet of vino and a jolly good chin-wag tomorrow evening.

if not, i'm packing suntan cream and shorts.

it could get somewhat hot!

all the very best to you god.

Hi, Flickr friends! Our church has now presented two performances of Godspell, out of the five that are scheduled.

So, I find myself in an unusual situation. I'm taking literally hundreds of pictures, but have little to share. The photos I'm taking are for the church.

I am alive and well, exhausted from both Easter preparations and a Broadway musical . . .and having a great time.

Here's a shot I took with my point-and-shoot, while visiting a doctor's office with Janice. I'll be back to more creative stuff soon!

Simplicity 3857, skirt was altered, bodice was lengthened and width taken out. I added a leaf to the flower stem after this picture. Yikes, I think the flower might look like a boob??? Aw man.

The day after Easter is a national holiday in Holland, so we drove to the beach at Noordwijk, about half an hour away. The route took us straight through the heart of the bulb country so there were plenty of colorful fields. We stopped to take pictures on the way to and from.

Even in this year of financial upheaval, Jay still dug deep to buy his bride a lovely bouquet. We ate at our favorite local restaurant, Mamma Mias. I put one of my hand-made Easter cards in the picture to add to the color.

Description/Notes: The numbered bust portraits of five women displaying "Pretty Hats for Easter" are arranged in a circle. Hat number one is white with a wide wavy brim, and is decorated with green leaves, pink flowers, bunches of small white flowers, and large white bows. She wears a high collared white blouse with a wide rose pink tie, and a fluffy white boa. Number two is a white medium brimmed hat with green edging, trimmed with bunches of small pink and lavender flowers and green bows, worn tipped forward with a bow at the back. The woman wears a yellow blouse with vertical small tucks down the bodice, and a high white lace collar. A yellow bow adorns the center front of the collar, and she wears a fluffy white boa. Figure number three is turned to show her hat in a profile view. The hat is a small rust colored twisted velvet hat, ornamented with a gray feather plume. She wears a gray dress with a white collar, horizontally striped in gray with gray dots. She wears a fluffy white boa, and a bouquet of daffodils is pictured in front of her. Figure four looks directly out at the viewer and holds up a white gloved hand while she listens to a winged cherub whispering in her ear. The cherub, who is half hidden behind a bouquet of roses, holds a letter. An Art Nouveau decorative framework surrounds the cherub and woman, and serves as a support for bouquets of pansies and daffodils. Her hat is a medium brimmed white straw, with a wavy brim, worn tilted to her right. Decorated with pink roses, white bows, and sprays of very small green leaves, another group of pink roses is nestled beneath the brim. She wears white gloves, and behind her ruffled lace collar and cuffs is a glimpse of deep green, which might be a bow or her dress. Figure number five wears a pale blue hat with a wreath of small pink rose buds, a pink flower on the top, with a black bow. The underside of the brim is filled with poufs of pale green with a single small yellow flower as an accent. She wears a pale yellow gown with black lace, a high collar, wide ruffles trimmed with a row of black at the edge, and black ribbons.

Cala Lily

Another peculiarity brought about by the unexpected weather that seems to have completely confused the plant life on the island this year. A cala lily blooms at the end of November. Also unusually, one came out on January 1 this year, but these are normally seen around Easter time, give or take a couple of months either way. They don't usually have a lilac tint or blueish leaves either, but just to add to the mystery and strangeness, this photo was taken in natural light under Delta's tropical sky.

Cala lilies are associated with Easter and usually flower at around this time, so I thought I would show you some from the garden today. In actual fact, these have been flowering almost constantly since the beginning of the year and had flowered in November before that. The latter was rare, but was a result, again, of the unexpected and almost back-to-front weather we'd had in summer and autumn last year. These were originally introduced by humans, but like everything else once it gets a hold in this immensely fertile territory, now grows with weed-like enthusiasm, groups often having tens of flowers at once.

We did buy alot, didn't we! Some lovely flowers for taking pictures of bunnies with, lots of seeds, including Carrots (Early Nantes 4), a bag of easter eggs, a wooden bird house ....... A WOODEN BIRD HOUSE? Widget, what did you put that in the basket for?

We seem to have brought something else back from there as well ...... he looks a little sad. Did you ask him to come and live with us, Widget?
