Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a bird of prey normally found in North America, but this one was at Knockhatch, near Hailsham in East Sussex, England.

Nice Picture Of Birds photos

American Robin or North American Robin Female

This is no doubt a female American robin or north American robin. Unlike the males she does not have the black cap and bold colors that he has, nor does she has the "checkered", colored chest feathers as the young do.
From my observations I put this Robin into the aggressive back yard bird category. The other birds will not stick around near the Robin! I watched as one species of bird even showed the "leave me alone" act .

Before the blue tit flew off completely, it landed on this bamboo plant for a few seconds, just long enough for me to get this close-up picture of a kind that I likely won't soon get another chance to take. If only it had been facing the camera a little more...

Picture A Day February 26, 2011 - Winter Plumage Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius) in Guadalupe River

Took me a while to figure out what this little bird was, because it was missing its tell-tale spots! During the non-breeding winter season, the Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius) has a nearly all-white chest and front. While it is one of the most common birds in its genus in North America, during the winter it sticks mostly to the creeks and streams along the southern edge of the United States. This bird was looking for his (her?) next meal in the fast-running waters of the Guadalupe River, immediately downstream from the spillway of Canyon Lake Dam.

this is where i love the little 50mm and its focussing
For many portrait photographers its not a preferred lens, but next to my prime 85mm its my favorite lens, Such as here the focus point bird and hands are sharp the rest of the image is not
I opted for no horizon here and having Tilly to the side of the frame although she did step a little to far to the side

The bird and the crabs (atoll, Red Sea)

Not a very pleasant picture: the crabs are feeding on the wounded little bird, surrounded by plastic bottles and other sweepings.

This bird killed itself shortly after this picture was taken by falling into the moat and drowning. When I first got to the castle is was being chased by a group of ravens doing their best to eat it. Unfortunately it was only able to fly short distances, and every time it tried to get away the ravens quickly followed. Some other early risers and I chased away the ravens for a bit which was when I caught this picture. Moments later as I was crossing the moat the bird jumped in and started to sink. A man with a group of tourist tried to go after it, but because of the steepness of the moat walls couldn't get close enough before the bird had sunk from sight.

A bird in the hand - what is it worth?

This postcard is a visual pun, but also carries more serious undercurrents. How much is a species worth? Both of these birds (puaiohi in hand, 2 palila on bush) are endangered on Hawaii. All pictures from an old San Diego Zoo member magazine.

From the picture it would seem that this bird was was enjoying a nice meal of shellfish. Unfortunately, if there was ever a nice meal, it was a thing of the past. This one was a victim of its greed, and its beak was now stuck inside this shell.

So one of the shutterbuggers bravely caught a hold of it, while I managed to dislodge the shell. (There is a photograph of that to, which we will be able to put up soon...)

And you thought we were all about our cameras.
